Christian Emanuel, Self portrait (2022)

Christian Emanuel is a filmmaker and portrait photographer from Birmingham, UK. After studying and earning himself a degree in Film Production Technology BSc, Christian started his initial foray into film with his work in shorts as a writer, director and producer before transitioning into the development of long form material, obtaining his first TV option in 2023 and enrolling into a BBC Writers programme in January 2024.

As a photographer, Christian originally picked up a stills camera in 2018 to sharpen his visual eye and further learn about lighting and composition to improve his directing skills but then later fell in love with the craft of photography and the analogue process. His work is primarily rooted in conceptual portraiture with his most recent works exploring modern blackness and the themes of generational trauma within the black community.

Christian has exhibited photo works across the UK in notable galleries that include: Sotheby’s London, Southbank Centre, Museum of Creativity, Midlands Arts Centre, The New Art Gallery Walsall and many more.
